Phil began playing classical music at the age of nine, starting out on the cello, taking grade exams and playing in local youth orchestras. Whilst studying musical instrument making he began to play Bass, West African percussion and Samba. He then went on to study music at the School of Oriental and African Studies specialising in West African and Korean percussion. He has recently completed two years of studying jazz bass with acclaimed UK bassist Paul Westwood.
